FAQs

Who should I call if I find an injured raptor (hawk or owl)?
The Owl Foundation in Vineland is the best spot. The other place would be the Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative in Guelph.

What should I do if I find a dead raptor?
The Canadian Wildlife Health Cooperative in Guelph will sometimes take dead raptors to test for Avian flu. Please reach out to them to determine if they are willing / able to receive the animal.
What should I do if I find a raptor nestling (hawk or owl)?
Please resist intervention until a full assessment can be completed, as nestlings/fledglings can’t fly well when they leave the nest, and are often still being taken care of by the parents. The Owl Foundation would help people assess when to intervene.
What should i do if I find a bird band or deceased bird with a band?
Please go to the Bird Banding Office of the ECCC.
